Dress Mess.

So I found this dress from Forever21 that was not so hot.

I was never going to wear it & I'm not even sure why I have it.
So I turned it into a cute little skirt!!

With the help old of some old soffie shorts, of course.

I'll show you how to do it to your old ugly dress.

Materials:
> Dress with skirt potential (Works best with empire waists)
> Elastic (It should be an inch bigger than the distance around your waist, while stretched.)
> Sewing utensils (Machine or needle & thread work fine.)

I am a cheap bastard, so instead of purchasing elastic, I seam-ripped it of some shorts that I did not care for.
I even cut it in half for later use! Haha
You can just buy some if you'd like.

First Step:

Cut your dress right under the empire seam.
(Heart-breaking, I know.)
I left about 1/2" on the top portion to potentially make a top out of it later.

Please cut as straight as possible.
Otherwise you are going to have a jank-ass skirt.

Step Two:

Pin the waist of your skirt about 1/4" wider than your elastic.
With flimsy fabric like mine, the more pins the better.
(I would also advise pinning vertically.)

Leave a small space to string your elastic through!

Step Three:

 Sew that bad boy.
My elastic was 1/2", so I sewed at 5/8" & 6/8"
(I double stitched for security purposes, but it's not necessary.)

Remember to NOT sew up the hole for the elastic!

Step Four:

String your safety-pinned elastic all the way through your new waist band, making sure it doesn't get twisted along the way.

It's supposed to look scrunchy, don't try to smooth it all out.

Step Five:

After you get the elastic all the way through, sew it at 1/2".
Be sure to sew the seam open so it doesn't get too bulky.
Cut off the extra stuff :]

Final Step:

Sew the elastic hole closed by blending your new seams with the one's you already did.

And you're all set!!

Reuse, Renew, RECYCLE.
Bam.

Forever Yours,
Samantha
